The final league fixture for both teams, had another `Cup Final' feel about it. For Warren Athletic it provided the opportunity to avenge the Festival cup defeat and secondly to secure 4th place. Paget Sports required the 3 points to secure 2nd spot. Nothing less would do. A full Paget Sports squad travelled to Cooksey lane, and were greeted by a grass pitch, where the grass stood taller than the Paget wingers! Small Heath Alliance had an interest in the match outcome. Had Paget slipped up, Small Heath were looking to take the runners up spot. The attendance of the largely unseen and unheard, Small Heath support, was largely down to the described jungle conditions! (Only joking `Macca').
The conditions favoured the hosts and it seemed to take Paget an entirety to settle and play the ball to feet. That said, on 8 minutes, a fine run by Peter Logan saw his wide right advance, face obstruction after obstruction, however, he managed to stay upright and get a deep cross to the far post, where Jamie Creevy was on hand to emanate the Festival Cup winning goal, with another fine header. A 1-0 lead was just what was needed to settle those Paget nerves. Thereafter, a lazy long ball game ensued. Any structure seemed bereft and Paget were unable to hold onto the ball. Paget appeared indifferent and nervous. Warren Athletic were in the ascendancy, repelling with ease, growing in stature, and `bossing' the game. Numerous Warren attacks were created, but resulted in many of the efforts falling wide of the mark.
On 30 minutes, Warren's, Stanley, punished sloppy Paget defending. A seemingly harmless ball was played into the Paget area and was initially contained by centre back, Mike Sanders. Goalkeeper, Scott Curtis gave a shout but then stayed put. Sander's took heed of the shout but with Curtis stationary it allowed a Warren striker to nick the ball and, play it back to Stanley, who calmly slotted low past Curtis. 1-1. In fairness, the goal had been on the cards, but not in this fashion.
The Paget cage was rattled and genuinely needed rattling, as it appeared, half the Paget team had stayed at home!
On 38 minutes, and from 25 yards, Paget striker, Lee Harrison was set through on goal. He managed to stave off the attention's of the recovering centre back, remained upright and calmly finished with a low shot past the advancing keeper.
2-1 for Paget and Harrison's 25th goal of the season.
On 40 minutes, Scott Handley, aggravated an ankle injury and was substituted by Matthew Sullivan. Jay Simms replaced Handley and Matthew Sullivan played wide along the Paget left.
I was pleased to hear the half time whistle as many Paget players appeared lethargic and clearly required a loud alarm call! (Repeating!)
The second half saw an overall improvement. Both teams sought a way through a cramped midfield. No quarter was given by either side and as a result, the second half finished with few goal scoring opportunities. Warren created the majority of attacking play's, but none that were instances, where, a comfortable finish could be applied. It was going to require something spectacular or nothing at all. The latter won the day!
On a couple of occasion's, Paget's, Jamie Creevy, managed to break the offside trap, then failed to work the Keeper, with each effort finishing wide of the target.
On 70 minutes, Kurt White entered the forward fray, replacing Lee Harrison.
On 80 minutes, Joey (the Cole) Titley, replaced the shattered Jamie Creevy.
Match referee, Glynn Poole, looked tired, weary, and off the pace ....... signs of a long season, I guess.
I extend our thanks to the hosts, Warren Athletic Fc, and wish them well for the future. I believe a pre-season fixture is sought and in principle has been agreed.

Paget Sports moved in to second place in Festival division 1 after a hard fought win against lowly Holdens. Jimmy O'Callaghan headed the Paget Sports winner after 10 minutes.
The game was a scrappy affair and with tiredness a major factor as Paget Sports were playing their fourth game in a week and to be fair to Holdens they made life very difficult for Paget Sports at times as they are fighting for their life's to stay in Festival division 1.
Also sometimes we all must relise that at this stage of the season the three points are all thats important. so well played to you all you dug in and grinded out the win. Lets move on to Sundays game with Highcroft Rangers with total confidence. Remember it's in our hands to win promotion.
Paget Sports would like to wish Holdens FC all the very best of luck in their final game of the season against Blackwood and for the future. You have always been very difficult opposition for Paget Sports particularly at Aston University.

Paget Sports finally broke the jinx of Coles Lane in winning the Festival Cup after losing in two previous finals at Coles Lane and what a final it proved to be. With Paget Sports and Warren Athletic serving up a real cracking game of football.
The game started at a frantic pace with early cup final nerves playing a big part. In the early stages Warren Athletic caused one or two problems down the Paget Sports left hand side but the Paget defence were quick to snuff out the danger.
Then on 17 minutes Jamie Creevy broke down the Warren Athletic left cut into the box and was adjudged to have been brought down by the Warren defender. The referee had no doubt and awarded Paget Sports a penalty. Scott Handley stepped up to take the spot kick and fired the ball to keepers right and he guessed the correct way, brilliantly tipping away the penalty.
On 20 minutes Lee Harrison broke down the right and fired in a quick cross which fell to James Mace who shot over. then a couple of minutes later a swift Paget Sports counter attack ending with Peter Logan shooting wide.
Paget Sports won a corner in the 35 minute as the ball came over into the penalty area, Dan Munday was bundled over in the box and the referee again awarded a penalty kick to Paget Sports. This time Peter Logan stepped up to take the spot kick. But yet again the Warren Athletic keeper guessed the right way saving his second penalty kick of the night.
On 40 minutes Warren Athletic had a great chance to take the lead when a snap shot from point blank range was tipped over the bar by keeper Scott Curts. then right on the stroke of half time another chance fell to James Mace but he shot well over.
Half Time Paget Sports 0 Warren Athletic 0
At the start of the second half Warren Athletic started the better winning two free kicks in quick succession in a dangerous area of the pitch. Both free kicks were stuck with power and both cannoned off the Paget sports crossbar. Then on 50 minutes Paget Sports defender Mike Sanders made a brilliant last ditch tackle when it looked as though the Warren Athletic striker was clean through on goal.
Lee Harrison thought he'd given Paget Sports the lead with a powerful header only to be ruled offside. The same player then broke down the Warren right and shot over from the edge of the box.
Paget Sports scored what proved to be the winning goal on the hour mark when a long throw from Scott Handley was flicked on by James Mace right in to the path of Jamie Creevy who gleefully powered home the header from 6 yards.
The 70 minute mark led to possibly the save of the season when Paget Sports won a free kick, Scott Handley hammered the ball right towards the top corner, but the Warren Athletic keeper somehow got up there to tip the ball over the bar, It was a remarkable save.
Warren Athletic had a chance from distance on the 75 minute mark but keeper Scott Curtis managed to hold on to the powerful strike. With Warren in a desperate search for an equaliser they started to leave spaces at the back and Lee Harrison shot straight at the Warren keeper after swift Paget Sports counter attack.
The last 5 minutes of the game was real end to end stuff. Peter Logan went clean through rounded the keeper but his finish went agonizingly wide and Lee Harrison also went through only to be stopped by a brilliant tackle from the Warren Athletic defender.
Warren Athletic were keeping Paget Sports defence under pressure in the final minutes but Paget Sports stood firm. When the final whistle blew it was time for calibration for Paget Sports.
May I thank Warren Athletic for their sporting approach to the game, you made it a great final. Also thanks to all those at Sutton Coldfield FC for their hospitality and finally thanks to the Festival league for deciding to play all this years finals at Coles Lane.

Lyndon Urchins |
2 - 0 |
Paget Sports |
Paget Sports promotion hopes were dented against the league leaders Lyndon Urchins. But in a spirited performance Paget Sports dominated most of the game. But credit to Lyndon Urchins they showed why they are top of Festival division one with a solid defensive display.
Most of the opening stages of the game were contested in midfield. although Lyndon made a couple of attempts from distance which caused no problems to the Paget Sports defence. Then on 18 minutes Lyndon took the lead with a cracking shot which went like a missile into the bottom corner of the Paget Sports net from about 25 yards.
Paget Sports then rallied with some fine passing football. Lee Harrison headed over the bar after a swift Paget Sports move. Then on 42 minutes Paget thought they had drew level when a brilliant free kick from Scott Handley it beat the Lyndon keeper all ends up but Paget Sports celebrations were short lived when the referee disallowed the goal saying that the free kick was indirect. Paget Sports still created one more chance in the first half when James Mace fired over from the edge of the penalty area. That brought a close to the action in the first half with Lyndon Urchins leading 1-0.
The second half was played in much of the same vein as the first half with Paget Sports having most of the possession but Lyndon Urchins were holding firm at the back and in particular the Lyndon keeper was dealing very well any of the long throws that Paget Sports won, punching the ball clear on almost every occasion.
The Lyndon Urchins keeper saved well tipping out a shot from Jamie Creevy and then Paget Sports won a free kick in an identical position to the one they had in the first half. Scott Handley again stepped up this time driving the free kick into the top corner. The Lyndon keeper could only watch but luckily for him the ball cannoned off the cross bar and out of play.
Then late on Paget changed formation in search for an equalizer and Lee Harrison had a brilliant effort, spectacularly volleying just over the bar from the edge of the penalty area. Then came the killer blow a swift counter attack by Lyndon Urchins caused confusion in the Paget Sports penalty area and with a chance to clear the danger Dan Sullivan miss controlled the ball allowing it to run straight into the path of the Lyndon Urchins striker who dispatched his shot high into the top corner of the net leaving the Paget Sports keeper Scott Curtis with no chance.
With other results going Lyndon Urchin's way Lyndon only need one point from the three game they have got left to lift the Festival division one title. Congratulations to all the lads at Lyndon Urchins you deserve it. I'm sure you will get the point you need. We look forward to the return fixture at Castle Vale in just over a weeks time.

Match referee, Mr Ken Wallace, enjoyed this fixture so much, he permitted substantial extra time in both halves. Fair play, he barely put a foot wrong. He kept up with the pace of the game and maintained a discreet discipline. Credit, where credit is due. A good personal performance, in an arena, where both clubs displayed a substantial mutual respect for each other.
This was the 3rd meeting of the season, each previous game having served up a feast of entertainment. Could this fixture live up to the expectations created by the previous two meetings? Oh yes it could, and oh yes it certainly did! In dry, overcast conditions, this solid pitch was going to lay claim to difficult conditions for ball control.
This sizzler, served Paget with a 6th minute lead, when Jamie Creevy managed to tap home from a couple of yards. The ball had been headed across the Blackwood 6 yard line and proceeded to bounce unkindly for all concerned, eventually, it fell to Creevy, for the most straight forward of finishes. On 12 minutes, a ball through the middle, saw Kurt White beat the offside trap, and with only the advancing keeper to beat, the resultant low shot was valiantly saved, thus, resulting in a corner.
The remainder of the first half became a long ball fest! This resulted, in the game being played at great pace and with a need for the respective defences to be on their toes! In fairness, both defences were solid and a credit throughout. No quarter given.
No changes at the half time break and very little to discern the Paget management. However, on 52 minutes, Blackwood split the Paget defence wide open, with a low ball than ran towards the Paget penalty box. As it was about to be pounced on, the advancing Paget keeper, Scott Curtis, took the legs of the Blackwood striker. PENALTY! Chris Millard confidently converted sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1!
The game continued to be a long ball, high tempo affair, the balance such, that both teams could sense a result.
On 55 minutes, Kurt White was substituted by Tommy O'Callaghan. Season debutant, Joe Titley, pushed from the left of midfield, onto the forward line, and Tommy O'Callaghan took Joe's place on the left of midfield. That change, rewarded Paget with a 70th minute own goal. Titley's persistance and perseverance brought about his cross into the Blackwood 6 yard area. The bounce cruelly struck the leg of right back, A. Moyens, and left the Blackwood keeper stranded. 2-1 the Paget!
On a sour note, the Blackwood keeper received a left shoulder injury, whilst competing with Paget centre back, Dan Munday. Both rose to deal with a corner cross, the keeper getting injured in the process. Eventually, the keeper was substituted by Karl Hughes.
On or about 75 minutes, Paget midfielder, Scott Handley, took a blow to his ankle and was substituted by Dan Sullivan.
So, it remained, until the 100 plus minute, when Paget failed to deal with a low driven cross. The ball was allowed to run across the 6 yard box to the back post and Tilsley, one of 3 waiting Blackwood players, tapped home 2-2!
The final whistle was blown on the kick! What a cruel, cruel game, this can be! Blackwood felt victorious! Paget, firstly non- believing, swiftly followed by dejection!
Overall, a cracking game of football, served up once again for a non paying audience. Placed in context, both sets of players had a full day at work, yet still managed to serve up a first class performance. Our thanks...... Bucko.
May I add the notable attendance of former Kingstanding Utd manager, Mick Donnolly. Mick, it was good to see you back on the Festival circuit.

Paget Sports suffered only their second league defeat of the season on a snowbound Vale stadium pitch. The kick off was delayed for half hour to help the snow to clear off the pitch. When the game finally got underway the highly charged atmosphere was quite apparent as second and third placed in Festival Division One went head to head.
Small Heath came at Paget Sports right from the off and in the early stages of the game Paget Sports were struggling to contain the pace of the Small Heath wide men and on 9 minutes Small Heath took the lead. When a quick throw into the Paget Sports penalty area caused confusion and the Paget Sports defenders could only stand and watch as Lewlin tapped in from close range.
That goal seemed to spur Paget Sports into life and Small Heath's lead was shorted lived when Jimmy O'Callaghan sprung the offside trap and drew Paget Sports level sliding the ball past the advancing Small Heath keeper to make the score 1-1.
Small Heath always looked dangerous when they were attacking but a Paget Sports counter attack saw them take the lead. a teasing cross from James Mace was met by the towering Jimmy O'Callaghan who powerfully headed the ball into the top corner of the net giving the Small Heath keeper no chance. That gave Paget Sports a 2-1 half time lead.
The second half started in similar fashion to the first half Small Heath having a real go at Paget Sports to try and get an equalizer and it paid dividends for them. On the 47 minute mark Small Heath won a free kick on the edge of the Paget Sports penalty area and the in swinging free kick was met with the deftest's of touches from Jennings to make the score 2-2.
Jimmy O'Callaghan had a chance to restore the lead for Paget Sports but blazed over with the goal at his mercy. Then on 67 minutes after a spell of concerted Small Heath pressure they took the lead. when White finished well from 12 yards sliding the ball past the out coming Paget Sports keeper after a swift Small Heath move.
Paget Sports fate was sealed on the 80 minute mark when Greensall powerfully headed home from 8 yards after a well delivered Small Heath corner to make the score 4-2.
Paget Sports would like to wish everybody at Small Heath Alliance all the best for the rest of the season. Even though some of the messages left on our message board were uncalled for. The Paget Sports team which include the management and the players have the upper most respect for Small Heath Alliance and knew from the start of the season you would be right up there in the promotion shake up. Anyway that's history, all the best to the lads at Small Heath.

This Easter Bank holiday had the `Fair' at the nearby Pype Hayes park, and the ` Flick,Trick & Dribbling' Circus', at the Vale Stadium. No one saw the circus coming, but once the whistle was blown, by match official, Alan Fleming, the audience were treated to flick, tricks and dribbling skills that would have graced, many a Brazilian beech. Such skill, grace and entertainment .... rarely seen on Sunday morning pitches, whipped up a subservant audience, causing a ruck of fine hearty song!
Such pleasure!!
Now onto the match report........ On 5 minutes, Jimmy O'Callaghan, chased a loose forward ball, that the visiting keeper appeared to slide out and meet. The tenacity of Jimmy O', caused the keeper to fumble on the ground, resulting in a nick, rounding the keeper and Jimmy O' striking home from 13 yards. An excellent piece of opportunism, created entirely by Jimmy. There was little in the way of football until the 30th minute. Peter Logan attacked with a mazy run from wide on the right, and once inside the penalty box, unselfishly crossed low for Kurt White, who from 3 yards, shot into the belly of the advancing & diving keeper. The keeper lay on the floor with Kurt. The keeper fumbled, so Kurt, gave him a second and possibly a third effort, into his belly. Oh well!
Half time, 1-0 to Paget. The `Flick,Trick & dribbling' performers had been in full swing, the crowd were baying for more....! yet, still the Paget coaching staff could be heard above the baying decibels. Oh, what entertainment!
Such performing, overwhelmed manager, John `Bucko' Buchan. The author required a period of convalescence, which was captured running the line! Second half reporting duties were given to Dan Sullivan, who methodically noted the following areas of action.
55 minutes, Kurt White, struck a powerful shot from 15 yards, that was ably caught and held by the Keeper.
Following his return from the U.S.A. Jamie Creevy replaced the `two trick pony', Kurt White. Not quite like for like, but the introduction and impact was immediate. On 60 minutes, a long forward ball was headed down by Lee Harrison, into the forward running path of Peter Logan. `Logie' beat his marker, crossed for Creevy at the back post, his resultant cross was met by James Mace, who laid the ball to Lee Harrison to strike home.
On 65 minutes, Jamie Creevy sprung the visitors offside trap, ran into the box attacking the 6 yard line, then struck the ball across the advancing keeper. The ricochet was headed into the net by Lee Harrison. Lee's second of the game and 24th of the season.
On 70 minutes, Peter Logan retrieved the ball on the right, just outside the Paget box. He then passed inside and across the Paget 18 yard line. The Paget defenders were caught by surprise which led to an interception by P. Smith, who shot low under the advancing Scott Curtis.
Further substitutions saw Matthew Sullivan replace Jay Simms on the left of midfield and Tommy O'Callaghan, for `soft ankles', Harrison!
An abject Paget performance was lightened by the Paget male voice choir, led by club skipper Derek Carr, with supporting roles for Danny O'Callaghan, `T.K' (Tom King), Fran, Marney, and the ....... sisters!
Our thanks to the match official, Mr Alan Fleming, who in fairness had little to do, but when so required was fair.
The circus as left town but may be seen performing short acts during the remainder of this season. Full performances have been moved elsewhere.
Our best wishes to Highlander Warriors Fc for next season................. Bucko

On a dry & sunny morning in North Birmingham, the presence of a Birmingham Evening mail photographer, just heightened the expectation's of both teams. With the scalps of Active Search, Spinney, and St Gerrards in the bag, Paget Sports Fc were once again, one game away, from the prestigious Festival Cup Final. The previous season, saw Paget Sports bombed out (4-1) at the same stage, by the eventual winners, Kingstanding Utd. Not so this year!
These two, adventureous and evenly matched teams, played out the opening eighteen minutes in cat and mouse style. Excellent pitch conditions, supported a mixed passing game. The initial opening appeared on that mark. From 18 yards, a James Mace shot, was heading towards goal, when, the head of Jimmy O'Callaghan deflected the ball past the keeper.
Six minutes on, Blackwood were back in the game. A free kick was floated towards the Paget 18 yard`D' and effectively cleared the head of the last Paget defender in Dan Munday. Blackwood's, Tilsley (A), sprinted onto the ball and clinically finished, driving low past the advancing Keeper, Scott Curtis. 1-1 and 24 minutes gone.
Once again, the game settled and was largely contested in the middle of the park. Honours even until the 35 minute mark ,when Peter Logan pulled out a sucker punch. From a defensive position in front of his own 18 yard line, Logie sent a long ball, straight down the centre of the pitch (gun and barrel spring to mind!), for a receptive Kurt White, to chase and latch onto. For a decent 40 yards, White fought off the shirt tugging and attentions of the recovering Blackwood centre back. White maintained momentum and touch as he approached the Blackwood 18 yard line. Then with superb composure he fired the ball low past the advancing keeper. Majestically, the ball bounced inside the post and that was that! 2-1 for Paget and a shirt dance performed by son (Kurt) before Mr White (Snr).
With 40 minutes on the clock, a Kurt White flick, found the predator, Lee Harrison. A strike and say no more! At 3-1, Paget were in wonderland. But just when you thought it couldn't get any better, without warning, Lee Harrison struck a shot from truly 30 yards or so. The keeper remained rooted and the net rippled with such effect, it screamed,` POWER!' 44 minutes gone and 4-1 in favour of Paget.
Unfortunately, a minor disturbance required the match referee, Mr Roy Crook, to step into the fray, which resulted in a red card for a Blackwood defender. Paget's Mike Saunders received a yellow and was fortunate to remain on the field of play.
Half-Time : Paget 4 Blackwood 1.
Blackwood gave 100 per cent and fought hard in what was undoubtably difficult circumstances.
On 60 minutes, the first of 3 Paget substitutions, saw forward, Kurt White make way for Tommy O'Callaghan. Midfielder, Scott Handley made way for Dan Sullivan.
On 75 minutes, Tommy O'Callaghan, intercepted a ball close to the Blackwood penalty box. He saw the support and advance of Jay Simms, then executed a precision pass behind the Blackwood defence, for Simms to run onto. Simms took posession of the ball but was hauled down. PENALTY! The referee had no choice and before we knew where we were, Dan Sullivan had stepped up to the plate. Sullivan converted with aplomb!
Forward, Mark Newton, came on for Peter Logan. Late into the game, Harrison bore down on goal and hat-tricks sprung to mind, but the unselfish forward chose to cross for the advancing Newton, however, the cross was just to heigh.
Full Time, 5-1. A record crowd had also appeared, potentially, 50-60 souls! Not bad!
A most enjoyable occasion which now provides for a second Festival Cup Final appearance (in 5 years) for Paget Sports to look forward to.
My thanks to the match referee, Mr Roy Crook and to the players & officials of Blackwood Fc. I salute your attitude. To a man, they came up to the Social club and enjoyed a beer with their jubilant hosts.
To the squad of Paget players, " Tops! But we ain't won nothing yet. Let's enjoy this future occasion and give a true account of our skills and ability on that night. Meanwhile, it is back to league business with the visit of Kingstanding Utd. Our thanks "
Paget Sports Team; Curtis, Todd, Munday, Sanders, Logan (Newton), Mace, J O'Callaghan, Handley (D Sullivan), Simms, Harrison, White (T O'Callaghan).

February was a very good month, 4 wins from 4 fixtures , 12 goals scored and none conceded. Exceptionally good figures at any level of the game. Was March going to be as equally successful? The opening fixture, welcomed the visit of Northfield Town based, Raco Athletic Fc.
Historically, this fixture is fiercely contested. The game lived up to expectations, the opening 30 minutes were played out in the middle of the park, with little or few, clear cut opportunities presented for either team. A significant factor was the cross pitch wind, which caused untold passes to go out of play.
However, on or about 30 minutes, Raco, were the first to stamp some authority on the game, when a long ball cut out the ball watching Paget midfield and defence, arriving at the back post for a tap home which left keeper, Curtis, stranded on his line. The goal was instrumental in creating outfield Paget changes. The forward line saw Jay Simms retreating into left midfield, Declan Timmins moving into a central midfield role, midfielder, Scott Handley, retreating into a centre back role and Jimmy O'Callaghan moving from defence to attack.
Inspirational changes, that improved the Paget balance. On or about, 44 minutes, Jimmy O'Callaghan chased down and harried what appeared to be a lost cause. The ball was `nicked', then fired across the Raco goalmouth from Peter Logan, arriving at the back stick, where the unmarked predator, Lee Harrison, fired a right foot shot over the fingers of the outstretched keeper. At 1-1, the score truly reflected a hard fought first half, with extremely few opportunities arising.
Paget could not have wished for a worse start to a second half. Poor defending on the 18yard line ,allowed Raco to steal the ball, and cross for a second tap home at 6 yards out. Three Paget players had the opportunity to kick the ball out of touch. Each, inexplicitedly failed to clear the danger.
A groin injury to Matthew Sullivan, saw the introduction of Tommy O'callaghan, who became a straight replacement on the right side of midfield. Midfielder, Declan Timmins was replaced by Daniel Sullivan.
The second half stuttered on, much the same as the first, without either team creating a clear cut chance. The changes and fresh legs undoubtably livened up the Paget performance. With 80 minutes played, 2-1 down and the game running away, an additional striker in the form of Kurt White was introduced. Influential Midfielder, Scott Handley making way. Paget chased the game changing to a 3-4-3 shape. It paid dividends, when a Dann Sullivan long throw was met by the head of Lee Harrison. Lee rose and contested the cross. His contact placed the ball down, beyond the outstretched keeper, and just inside the post.
Paget, were carried on the crest of a wave, such, that once the kick was retrieved, a Paget attack broke down the right and the resultant crossshot was parried by the RACO keeper but lucky for Paget Sports Jay Simms was on hand to fire home the rebound. 3-2 to Paget Sports. Two goals within minutes of each other! An awesome 10 minutes. The celebrations were reminescent of those seen for former cup final winning goals. Such was the joy and relief. Lee Harrison also had an effort which rebounded off the woodwork in that 10minute spell.
We look forward to the Festival Cup semi-final tie with Blackwood Fc, Ko 10.30am Sunday 9th March 2008, at the Vale Stadium,

Paget Sports made it four wins out of four matches without conceding a goal in february and threw the promotion race from division one wide open. This was the most even contest Paget Sports have been involved in for many weeks with clear cut chances at a premium.
All the action seemed to take place in the second half when the game started to open up. Paget Sports took the lead after a spell of concerted pressure. Lee Harrison scoring with his eighteenth goal of the season, a far post header from a Peter Logan cross on the 70 minute mark.
Paget Sports were then awarded a penalty when Lee Harrison was fouled in the box. Midfielder Scott Handley stepped up to take the spot kick. The Blackwood keeper guested the right way and brilliantly saved Handley's spot kick diving to his right to parry the ball away.
Then Blackwood put Paget Sports under real pressure in the final 10 minutes of the game. Matt Sullivan cleared off the line after a goal mouth scramble and Paget Sports keeper Scott Curtis pulled off a great save in the final minute of the game to keep Paget Sports lead in tact.
On the down side Paget Sports captain Derek Carr will be out of action for several weeks, after severely spraining his ankle in the final few minutes of the game. We hope you make a speedy recovery Derek and hope to see you playing before the end of the season.
Very well played to you lads this was a big win for Paget Sports, who move up to fourth in the league. Also well played to Blackwood for their part in such an entertaining game and we look for to meeting them in the Festival Cup semi final in two weeks time at the Vale Stadium. It should be another cracking game of football.

Paget Sports continued their good run in February by winning their third match on the bounce and without conceding a goal either this month.
A delayed kick off was the order of the day due to the overnight frost which left the Wonder Vaults pitch rock hard. The game finally kicked off just after 11:00pm. and there was nothing to choose between the sides in the first 15 minutes. As both sides were comming to terms with the hard pitch.
Then on 20 minutes Paget Sports took the lead when Jimmy O'Callaghan scored from a low cross following dogged chasing down inside the box by Lee Harrison.
Paget Sports then started to take control of the game and extended their lead on 40 minutes. When a good individual run from Lee Harrison (cutting in from the left) hit a low shot from 20 yards out that beat the diving keeper and crept in at the bottom corner of the net.
Paget Sports ended the half completely on top and deserved the 2-0 lead at half time.
Paget Sports started the second half where they left off the first. they were in control of the game and playing some of the best passing football we have seen for weeks. Then on 55 minutes Paget Sports deservedly increased their lead. When a Peter Logan cross was met by the head of Lee Harrison at the back post to make it 3-0.
Paget Sports were playing some of the best football of the season by now and every player in the side looked to be in fine form then on 75 minutes came the goal of the game. A sweeping Paget Sports move which started from the back ending in Kurt White scoring with a back post header following a Lee Harrison cross chip.
Paget Sports seen the rest of the game out in complete control and still playing some great football in the process.
Thanks to the Match referee Mick Parr. Who hung around and kept checking the pitch at the start so the game could be played and Allowed the game to flow when it got underway.
We would like to wish everybody at Wonder Vaults FC good luck for the rest of the season and hope to see you in the near future.

Paget Sports Fc travelled to the Rowheath Pavillion, Bournville, in a confident and expectant mood. The hosts, Highlander, sat at the foot of the table and were clearly struggling to impact on their rival Festival Division one combatants. Highlander, had lost 7-0 the previous week (.v.Holden's), and with hindsight, I would suggest, that a number of Paget players, guessed that Highlander would be an easy touch. The reality could not have been further from that view.
Played on a sticky chocolate council pitch, conditions certainly were not to Paget's liking. The opposition sat deep and allowed Paget to push on, a risk that was penalised with a tap home on 5 minutes. Jem Mills was on hand in and around the 6 yard box to finish a speculative cross. With 5 minutes gone and the score at 1-0, the expectation was for the flood gates to open! However, Highlander had other thoughts on that. They defended with commitment and passion. Strong challenges were executed and prevailed throughout. The `every man behind the ball' tactic, worked extremely well.
The host goalkeeper was superb, snuffing numerous Paget attacks. His handling, persona and confidence, had a positive influence on the Highlander moral. Highlander remained a cautious outfit, maintaining a strong discipline in front of goal. The best that Highlander possessed was the long ball over the top. On those occasions, Castle Vale resident and debutant Paget Keeper, Gavin Rickus, performed without a hitch. The debutant Keeper deputised for Scott Curtis, who befell child care issues. One of the few positive factors for Paget was the performance of Rickus and the touchline support demonstrated by Scott Curtis.
As the first half evolved, Paget became increasingly frustrated as wave after wave of attacks were broken up. Highlnder sat up to 9 players behind the ball. The Paget passing game became increasingly disjointed and inept. The confidence began to ebb. However, on 25 minutes, Jem mills was on hand to add his and Paget's second goal. Another tap in fell to Jem. Prior to half time, Highlander were reduced to 10 men and their defensive resolve increased markedly (If that could be possible!).
The second half continued as left. A dour half of kick and run football. Paget were guilty of woeful and wayward passing. That said, goal scoring opportunities were abound, but then the opportunities were equally squandered or saved by the host keeper. Paget had to wait until the 85th minute, for a 3rd goal. A Dan Sullivan thunder throw-in, by past the host keeper, and was met at the back post by the head of the advancing central defender, Jimmy O'Callaghan. Jimmy's 3rd of season.
Our thanks to the players and staff of Highlander for a gutsy performance.
Match official, Mr Martin Braker, performed an honest, dignified, and consistant role throughout. Our Thanks.
On behalf of all at Paget Sports Fc, I would like to welcome and congratulate Gavin Rickus, on his debutant performance.
In respect of Paget Sports Fc, it was the poorest performance I have witnessed for many years. Individually, and collectively poor. Enough said..... Let's hope that the saying, ` To win, when playing badly, is a good omen', and pray, that it applies to this squad!
A deeply frustrated Manager......... Bucko

History in the making, the first competitive fixture between the two ground sharing, Castle Vale based, Sunday Festival League outfit's, St Gerards and Paget Sports Fc. Previously, the two teams had only ever met in pre-season or end of season presentation night fixtures.
Paget Sports were without the influential centre back, Dan Munday, but, were otherwise at full strength, St Gerards had a number of players missing through injury.
The pitch was in excellent condition, and a sizeable wind blew the length of the pitch. Paget Sports were to play the opening period facing into the wind.
The opening 20 minutes were keenly contested, with both teams seeking their passing game. Of note was a very early opportunity for Paget's, Lee Harrison, who found himself through on goal. The strike was kept low but was efficiently blocked by the advancing keeper.
On 22 minutes, striker, Jem Mills, received a ball in the St Gerards penalty box, which he calmly despatched, shooting low, across the keeper, giving Paget a 1-0 lead. The remainder of the half was played out without incident of note.
Paget played the second half with the influential wind at their backs.
The 2nd half began with a flurry of Paget corners. Within 5 minutes, Mills converted his 2nd goal of the game with a header at the back stick. Mills did extremely well to stretch, and to meet the ball, which came at pace.
The third goal once again saw Lee Harrison through on goal. With only the advancing keeper to beat, Harrison recognised the support that MIlls was supplying behind the play. With the keeper committed in his advance, the unselfish Harrison passed the ball sideway's, cutting out the keeper. Mills was left with the simplistic job, of running forward onto the ball, and slotting home his 3rd.
The 4th goal arrived on or about 70 minutes, when Harrison headed home from a corner kick.
Paget substitutions came thick and fast, with Tommy O'callaghan replacing Matthew Sullivan and Declan Timmins replacing Jay Simms. With 10 minutes to go, a debut appearance was in the making, when Mark Newton replaced Lee Harrison.
The Paget performance was a much improved affair, with the hitherto passing game reclaimed, and apparent in abundance.
Paget Sports would like to commend St Gerards Fc, for displaying good discipline and attitude in defeat.
Match official, Mr Neil Jones, had a very good performance and was key throughout. Our thanks to Mr Jones are extended once again.
Paget Sports Fc :- Curtis, Todd, Sanders, Jimmy O'Callaghan, Matthew Sullivan, Simms, Carr (capt), Logan, Handley, Harrison, Mills. Subs, Timmins (for Simms), Daniel Sullivan, Kurt White, Newton (for Harrison) and Tom O'Callaghan (for Matthew Sullivan).

Lyndon Urchins |
3 - 2 |
Paget Sports |
Paget Scorers - Harrison, J O'Callaghan
|
||
Paget Sports bowed out of the George Williams Cup falling to a dramatic last minute goal from Lyndon Urchins. Paget Sports started brightly and took the lead midway through the first have with Lee Harrison finishing off a smart Paget Sports move.
Paget Sports could have a the game wrapped up at half time, Peter Logan had a goal disallowed for a reason only the referee saw, Joe Titley shot narrowly wide and Dan Munday missed a chance right on half time heading wide from a Peter Logan corner there was also a fair shout for a Paget Sports penalty when it appeared that a Lyndon player used is hand to control the ball but the referee waved play on. As half time approached Paget Sports seemed quite comfortable with a 1-0 lead.
The second half was a totally different story with Lyndon Urchins putting Paget Sports under pressure right from the start and they got back on level terms with a slightly fortunate equaliser when Paget Sports keeper Scott Curtis allowed the the ball to run as it appeared to be going for a goal kick but unfortunately the ball hit a divit and ended up in the Paget Sports net to make 1-1.
Then within a minute of drawing level Lyndon Urchins were in front, when the Lyndon Urchins forward finished well with a one on one with the Paget Sports keeper when Paget Sports were left short of players at the back.
But Lyndon's lead was short lived as Paget Sports equalised almost straight away. Central defender Jimmy O'Callaghan heading home from a Peter Logan corner to make the score 2-2. for the rest of the second half Lyndon Urchins were always on top and Paget Sports were guilty of not being able to keep hold of the the ball and created very few chances.
As the game came to a close Paget Sports rode their luck to the extent of Lyndon Urchins missing a penalty with Scott Curtis making a great save from Carl Fellows spot kick and then the same player missing the the rebound, blazing over when it appeared the goal was gapping.
Just as the game appeared to be heading for extra time, Lyndon Urchins won a corner in the final minute of the game and with some poor marking in the Paget Sports penalty area a Lyndon Urchins defender rose and being totally unmarked, headed in the winner. Paget Sports only just about had time to kick off before the referee blew the final whistle.
All of us at Paget Sports would like to wish Lyndon Urchins all the best in next weeks County Cup game against Lion Wombourne and also good luck in the final of the George Williams Cup. Well played to you see you when the league games comence later in the season.

Paget Sports and Active Search served up yet another cracker of a game with a feast of goals carrying on from the eight goals scored in the previous league game played between the two clubs. In a highly competitive but very sporting start to the game neither side took control in the early stages and chances were at a premium.
But on the 20 minute mark Paget Sports took the lead when Peter Logan cleverly chipped the advancing Active keeper. Paget Sports lead was however short lived when active were awarded a penalty which was converted by Barnes to tie the game up at 1-1. Paget Sports regained the lead when Jay Simms converted the rebound after the Active keeper pulled off a brilliant save from a point blank header from debutant Jem Mills. As the first half came to a close most of the pressing was with Paget Sports but Active always looked dangerous on the break and Paget Sports were happy to be leading 2-1 at the half time break.
The Second half started with Paget Sports pressing for a third goal but Active's defence stood firm and Active started imposing themselves more in the game and again the resilient Active found themselves deservedly level with a sweeping move in which Steele finished by side footing past the Paget keeper Scott Cutis to make it 2-2.
The game then became end to end with both sides having chances to gain the lead. On 85 minutes Paget Sports scored what looked to be the winner when Mike Sanders hooked home from 12 yards to give Paget Sports the lead. But credit to Active Search they hit back straight away with O'Rielly heading home from close range to make the score 3-3.
That was the end of the scoring in a very entertaining game which a draw was probably a fair result. Well played to everybody involved with Active Search on making the games with Paget Sports so entertaining this season. Good luck for the rest of the season to you and we look forward to our rivalry continuing in the near future.

Highcroft Rangers |
Paget Scorers - Logan, D O'Callaghan, Harrison
|
||
This Festival League, Division one fixture, involving the former Tybyurn House Fc, is the first competitive game between these two locally based teams. Both sets of players are well known to one another, having trained together over previous years.
Annually, the two teams have competed for the Vale Invitational Trophy, a trophy purchased by Highcroft officials and presently held by Paget Sports. It has pride of place in the Vale Stadium Lounge bar (draped in Gold & Black ribbon). Due to potential fixture congestion, it was agreed that the Trophy would be coveted over the two 2007-08 league fixtures. Therefore, in addition to the 3 league points on offer, there was a warm welcome to Leg One of the Vale Invitational Trophy.
Match official, Mr Dan Watts, was welcomed to the Vale stadium, for his first charge involving Paget sports Fc. Both teams reported strong squads. Declan Timmins at 17yrs, made his first Paget start, on the left side of a 4 man midfield.
The opening encounters were evenly based affairs with the midfield providing a hotbed of activity. Paget showed a shade more in the attacking department and were rewarded with an opening goal on 22 minutes. Right sided midfield activity involving skipper, Derek Carr, and the elder statesman, Peter `Logie' Logan, led to some wonderful individual work by `Logie'. `Logie' cut in from the right, rounded defenders along the 18 yard line, finishing with a low shot across the keeper. 1-0 and jubilation!
The play continued to be hotly contested in midfield. Limited opportunities came and went, Highcroft chose to shoot high and wide, whilst Paget's top scorer, Lee Harrison, chose to shoot into the midrift of the visiting keeper.
The second half saw Highcroft open with a 3-5-2 shape. This initially caused concern for the Paget midfield, as Highcroft appeared to be over running the centre of the pitch. Generally, Highcroft's final ball forward was overhit or poor. The combination of back to form keeper, Scott Curtis, who was back to his brash and vocal form (following a bout of sickness), the stalwart rearguard defence, of Dan Munday, Andy Todd, Jimmy O'callaghan, Tommy O'Callaghan, Scott Handley, were coherent, on song and in control.
As the second half progressed, tiredness crept into the visitors. The Highcroft back three were getting turned on a more frequent basis. It seemed only a matter of time before the offside trap would be broken and a Paget 2nd added. So it was. On or about 70 minutes, Dan O'callaghan chased down a through ball, that appeared to have the keepers name written all over it. Dan's perseverance allowed him to nick the ball from the advancing keeper, who in turn he rounded, and tapped the ball home. 2-0!
Within 10 minutes of the 2nd, a third goal was added. Industrious chasing by the in-form Dan O'Callaghan, led to a cross pass, that cut out the advancing keeper and provided Lee Harrison with a tap home from 18 yards. 3-0 and Harrison's 13th goal of the season.
The game was won, but not over. Highcroft Rangers continued to valiantly press forward in search of a goal. Thankfully, the goal did not materialise and a Paget clean sheet was heartily welcomed!
This fixture had numerous component parts and ingredients, that were more likely than most, to lead to over the top play and over exuberance. However, match official, Mr Dan Watts controlled and directed the play from the opening minute. His polite and positive decision making, earned the trust of all the players and touch line staff alike. His presence contributed positively to a competitive game of football, where entertainment was the winner!
I would like to thank Mr Watts on behalf of both teams. We wish you good fortune and best wishes during your 3 year stay in Hong Kong. The UK has lost an asset. Bowl them over!

Prince of Wales |
(AET) Paget Scorers - Harrison, D O'Callaghan

A Festive Cracker was served up at the Vale Stadium, as a young Paget Sports team faced Solihull & Oakbourne Premier outfit, Prince of Wales Fc. With excellent pitch conditions, superb weather, and Mark Chester officiating, the ingredients were present for a cracking game of festive football. A frustrated John Buchan, watched on anxiously, as his side took a grip of the game and bemoaned miss after miss on the Wales goal. It was Ironic, that a Wales attack on 25 minutes, produced the opening and only goal of the first half. A defence splitting ball, was latched onto by one of two Wales forwards, and was subsequently tucked away by the other. The Sports defenders were incensed as the move clearly showed the opponents to be 3-4 yards offside. The linesman (a Paget player!), kept his flag down, so defiant calls were ignored.
Second half pressure brought about a Sports spot kick. Left sided midfielder, Jamie Creevy was through on goal, and whilst rounding, the keeper, had his ankle clipped. A stagnant period followed while the keeper required medical attention for a facial injury. He followed that treatment by saving Lee Harrison's spot kick.
The save was a reflection on Paget's plight. Twenty minutes of relentless second half pressure appeared to have no reward, until Lee Harrison rose in the 6 yard box to head and steer past the advancing keeper. This goal was immediately followed up by a quality strike from Danny O'Callaghan. This promising youngster, who, awaits a New Year trial with Glasgow Rangers, displayed control and tenacity on or about the 25 yard mark. With his back to goal , he managed to steal a half yard on the central defender, and on the half turn, struck a half volley, which was driven low and across the keeper. Paget led 2-1 and appeared in control.
A substitution followed, Simms for Logan.
But,this was a short lived scenario. The visitors, with nothing to lose, reversed the play, and came at the Sports with gusto.
A visiting forward breached the Sports defence, running towards goal he was shadowed by Jimmy O'Callaghan. Good defensive work by Jimmy O'Callaghan had the forward moving away from goal but for some inexplicable reason Jimmy O'Callaghan chose to foul the forward resulting in a penalty. There followed a great save by keeper, Scott Curtis. Diving low to his right handside, Scott pushed the effort away.
Substitutions followed, Tommy O'callaghan for Jimmy O'Callaghan and Kurt White for Jamie Creevy.
With 12 minutes remaining, one of a number of corners, eventually bore the equaliser. A Paget defender was clearly and ceremoniously pushed in the back. The referee appeared in line with the incident and appeared to have a clear and unobstructed view. Mr Chester failed to deal with the incident, resulting in a scrappy equaliser (2-2).
A deflated Sports side were taken to extra time. There was little doubt, Sports had done enough to win the game, but a wayward defensive pass was intercepted 20 yards out and the strike was such, that Sports keeper Curtis could only watch in astonishment as the ball moved at the last moment. 3-2 Prince of Wales!
During the second period of extra time, the visitors goal was under siege. Then a pacey break from the siege, left Jay Simms floundering to salvage the break. Keeper, Curtis was rounded and a tap in sealed the Sports fate.
To those involved at Paget Sports Fc , I would like to say, " I cannot hide my disappointment at losing a game which we richly deserved to win. However, one cannot ignore the fact that Prince of Wales scored more goals than us! Good luck to Wales in the Quarter Finals. May I thank you all for remaining loyal, focused and attentive. Remember, a disappointing result doesn't make a season.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU, ONE AND ALL "

Paget Sports and Kingstanding United served up yet another action packed game. Played on a waterlogged pitch which fair play to the referee he just about got it right to play, but sadly that was one of the few things he got right in the whole game.
The game started at a frantic pace the ball skidding away in some parts of the pitch and stopping dead in others. Kingstanding took an early lead when it appeared that the kingstanding player was yards offside. The referee ignored the linesman let play go on and to be fair to the Kingstanding player he finished very well to put Kingstanding in front.
Paget Sports began to take control of the game after the early set back and striker Lee Harrison was so unlucky not to level the scores up with a clever volley which cannoned off the post. but minutes later Harrison got Paget Sports level with a great drive into the corner of the net. which was only what Paget deserved. Jamie Creevy thought he had put Paget in front with a well placed header only for the referee to give him offside, when he was clearly onside.
Paget Sports had a succession of corners just before the half time whistle in which the Kingstanding keeper pulled off three fine saves to keep the scores level at half time.
The second half started much the same as the first Kingstanding had the wind at their backs and tried to put Paget Sports under early pressure. But Paget held firm and again started to take control of the game and Paget Sports were 2-1 ahead with the move of the game when Dan O'Callaghan finished off a fine Paget Sports move which started from the back with some fine passing through midfield that cut the kingstanding defence apart.
Within a minute Kingstanding were level when Paget Sports had switched off after taking the lead. Paget Sports then went straight up the other end and took the lead for the second time in four minutes when captain Derek Carr slotted home Paget Sports third.
Paget Sports thought they had the game won when Lee Harrison cleverly turned in the box a was fouled by a Kingstanding defender. Substitute Kurt White calmly stepped up and slotted home the penalty to give Paget Sports a 4-2 lead. Paget Sports and kingstanding both made changes as players tired due to the heavy conditions and that seemed to lift Kingstanding United.
With eight minutes left Kingstanding pulled it back to 4-3 the ball scrambled home from a corner. Then in the dying minutes kingstanding were awarded a free kick and they made Paget pay with a well placed header which narrowly beat the Paget keeper Scott Curtis to make it 4-4.
Well played to both sides for such an entertaining game in the poorest of conditions. Mick from Kingstanding said his side had got out of jail and that's probably true. But you can only admire the battling qualities Kingstanding United showed in the last ten minutes, fair play to you lads.
We Look forward to our final battle with Kingstanding United for the 2007/08 season when they will visit the Vale Stadium in the new year. Till then Paget Sports would like to wish Everybody involved with Kingstanding United Football Club, A very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.

At the second time of asking, this ambitious fixture took place at the Glades, Lugtrout Lane, Solihull, West Midlands. Both teams were faced with a mixed weather front which made for interesting judgements and adjustments.
Surprisingly, Paget Sports found themselves two up in the opening 13 minutes, and four up on 31 minutes. What followed was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Deep defending, permitted St Leonards to exploit the area between midfield and defence. They maintained this forward momentum, exploiting the concessions, and were rewarded with goals on 32 and 33 minutes. The latter goal, a complete breakdown in defensive communication. Paget literally held on for a half time whistle that reflected a 4-2 scoreline in their favour.
The second half began as Paget Sports left off. Sitting far to deep, and inviting St Leonards forward, the opponents pushed and prodded. A series of host corners were successfully defended, however, St Leonards did manage to crash a header against the post. Had that effort counted (at 4-3), then Paget would have faced a very stearn test and may not have achieved the final result.
The Paget Sports midfield was reorganised, fresh legs added, a move that was distinctly instrumental in sealing the fate of St Leonards.
At circa 55 minutes, a Dan Munday header, produced the 5th Paget Sports goal, and the final nail in the St Leonards coffin. Understandably, it was going to be a long haul back for St Leonards. At 5-2 down, facing 3 pairs of fresh legs, was not an enviable task. The latter stages were dominated by an in form Paget Sports team.
May I thank and congratulate the Paget Sports team on an excellent result against a much fancied Oakbourne & District Premier league team. Further Oakbourne & District Premier League opposition await in Round 3. Paget Sports will play hosts to the Prince of Wales on 16th December.
In particular, our congratulations are extended to Dan O'callaghan who managed to bag 4 goals. A mean feat! Congratulations to the other goal scorers, Lee Harrison (2), Jamie Creevy and Dan Munday. Remember, it takes a team to win a game. Without the supply, there are no goals to be bagged! So, hats off to the Paget Sports squad.......
May I apologise for the lack of incident times and detail surrounding those incidents. Somebody lost the match notes! (B9)
May I congratulate the match referee, Paul Sudbury, for allowing two good teams to compete and entertain. Mr Sudbury displayed honesty, integrity, discretion, fair discipline, and an attention to detail throughout. Top marks..... our joint team thanks.

Paget Sports made into the semi final of the George Williams Memorial cup with arguably their best performance of the the season in beating our local rivals Kingstanding United. With manager John Buchan absent due to work commitments assistant manager Andy Todd took charge of the game with the help of Declan Timmins.
The game started at a thunderous pace and Paget Sports were in front with in the first five minutes when captain Derek Carr headed past the stranded Kingstanding keeper as he came off his line to collect the ball.
After a spell of Kingstanding possession Paget Sports changed formation and the change was successful as Lee Harrison put Paget Sports 2-0 up around the 25 minute mark with a sweet strike that beat the KIngstanding keeper all ends up. Lee could have scored again before half time when he hit the sweetest volley you'll ever see when he was cleverly set up by Dan O'Callaghan.
Paget Sports went into the half time break with a thoroughly deserved 2-0 lead. The only downside was a yellow card for defender Scott Handley for a foul on the Kingstanding winger.
The second half started as we knew it would when Kingstanding really came out of the blocks with all guns blazing. But Paget Sports held firm during this spell with any chances falling to kingstanding were from a distance and Paget could have increased their lead when Dan O'Callaghan broke from defence, found Lee Harrison but his shot was well saved by the keeper.
Paget Sports made a change early in when Kurt White replaced the injured Dan O'Callaghan and Kurt won the free kick that led to Paget's third goal. Lee Harrison smashing the ball in after the keeper couldn't hold on to the free kick.
Paget Sports keeper Scott Curtis did well to tip over the bar from a late Kingstanding free kick and Peter Logan and Dan Sullivan replaced the injured Scott Handley and Lee Harrison. Paget Sports saw the rest of the game out for a well deserved 3-0 win.
Well played to everyone involved with Paget Sports it was a great performance. Thanks to Declan Timmins for his help during the game. Finally thanks to the sporting nature of all the people from Kingstanding United it's nice to see that you can be the closest of rivals and still be friends and no doubt the rivalry will continue when the league games take place.

Paget Sports gained their fourth win on the bounce in a highly charged encounter with Active Search. Traditionally games between Paget Sports and Active Search/Belton Rangers have always been competitive to say the least and this was no exception. A very healthy sized and boisterous crowd witnessed the game.
A small and slopping pitch added to the drama. Active Search kicked down the slope in the first half and bombarded the Paget Sports penalty area with long balls which at times Paget Sports were at full stretch to deal with, and Active Search went into the half time break 2-1 a head. The Paget Sports goal came from Lee Harrison his first league of the season. But to be fair to Paget Sports also created a number of other chances which could of made the half time score very different.
Paget Sports had to make a early change when striker Jamie Creevy was replaced by youngster Dan O'Callaghan. This gave Dan a chance to impress and he certainly did with his cleaver but simple approach to the game and creating some fine link up play with fellow striker Lee Harrison
Other points of note in the first half was a thunderous shot from Scott Handley which cannoned off the underside of the crossbar with a scrambling Lee Harrison trying to convert the rebound. and the same player hitting a twice taken free kick, which the Active Search keeper did well to save as he must of seen it very late to tip it round the post for a Paget Sports corner.
The second half however Paget Sports began to take control of the game by using the slope to their advantage, with some good creative passing and movement. The goals started to come. Lee Harrison grabbed his second goal of the game. Then a spectacular overhead kick by Jim O'Callaghan a bullet header from Dan Munday and a cheeky little flick by Peter Logan gave Paget Sports a 5-2 lead. Which seemed to tie up the game for Paget Sports.
But as manager John Buchan keeps saying Paget Sports have a tendency to shoot them selves in the foot and they nearly did when Active converted a penalty. Which made the last five minutes of the game far more awkward than they should have been.
Never the less it's a valuable three points against a very gutsy Active Shearch side who always seem to make life difficult for Paget Sports and we look forward to renew our healthy rivalry with them when Active Search visit the Vale Stadium later in the season.

Historically, Raco Athletic have always presented themselves as a no nonsense, never lie-down, competitive side. So, no surprises encountered on this latest meeting. The first period of play was dominated by Paget possession. Raco defended in depth and looked to catch Paget with a long ball on the break. On 30 minutes, Paget took a deserved lead, when central midfielder, Mike Sanders, unleashed a low strike from 25 yards out. This was closely followed, by a 35 yard wonder strike, courtesy of left back, Scott Handley. Scott connected with a moving ball, and struck a thunderous half volley which never wavered. A trully memorable strike!
Half-time 2-0, and the first Paget substitution, Dan O'Callaghan replacing Kurt White.
The second half, was an entirely different affair. Raco pounced on continuous slack passing. It was noticeable, that as the Raco confidence and belief returned, they became a considerable threat. Keeper, Scott Curtis, was called into action on numerous occasions, acquitting himself with credit.
On 65 mins, a low 20 yard strike, from midfielder, Mike Sanders, found the corner of the Raco net. At 3-0, it should have been all over, but for sustained periods, Raco continued to pick off sloppy passing and continued to threaten the Paget goal.
Matthew Sullivan and Daniel Sullivan entered the fray, replacing Jamie Creevy and captain, Derek Carr, respectively.
Raco were rewarded with a late goal. A scramble in front of goal was not defended and a Raco goal materialised. In the last five minutes, a further opportunity fell to Raco, but to Paget relief was sky bound.
Paget will need to improve on their second half performances. Trust, in the simple passing game, will go a long way to improving and alleviating second half issues.
We keep shooting ourselves in the foot springs to mind!

An emphatic home win for Paget in front of an audience of 46. In hindsight, a pleasing and comfortable performance, that saw the 3 points secured by the middle of the first half.
Several lucrative chances were squandered, prior to the opening goal arriving on or about the 20 minute mark. Kurt White, running with the ball, scored with a close, powerful strike. The high rising strike left the visiting keeper, Richards, with no chance. The second, arrived shortly after. Courtesy of an own goal. White crossed a powerful corner kick which was clutched by keeper Richards, taken to the chest and then fumbled out of his clutch into the Holden net. On a negative note, there wasn't a Paget player in sight! At 2-0, it was nothing less than Paget deserved. Numerous goal scoring opportunities came and went, but credit to Holden's, they battled and defended steadfastly. Their keeper, Richards, was a significant, defender throughout.
A 2-0 lead at half time, was never comfortable. Evidence of that had been highlighted the previous week, when Paget allowed a spirited Spinney side, to come back from 3-0 down at the break.
The second half continued where Paget left off. Ten minutes into the half, a Scott Handley corner kick was converted by the head of Dan Munday. The goal, sealed Holden's fate. The Paget keeper, Scott Curtis, had little to do as the Paget defence held firm and resolute. Holden's continued to push players forward, but were unable, with any confidence, to penetrate the Paget back four.
Second half substitutions were safely made, commencing with Matthew Sullivan replacing a sound performance by striker, Kurt White, a second appearance for 17 yr old, Declan Timmins, who replaced the flawless left back, Scott Handley, and Dan Sullivan replacing the ever present right back, Andy Todd.
Sponsors man of the match, Jay Simms. Our thanks are extended to Jay, as he has donated his cash prize towards this weeks training costs.

With only one change made to the playing squad that convincingly beat Wonder Vaults 4-0 it was decided to rest the clubs top scorer for the season Kurt White and give a well-deserved opportunity to James Creevy to play in the coveted centre forwards position against a tough Spinney side.
The first 20 minutes of the game was unspectacular with both sides battling it out to gain some kind of control of the game. Paget eventually won this battle and began to dictate and dominate the rest of the first half. Jamie Creevy re-paid the faith of his manager to slam home a first half hatrick and was also denied 2 blatant penalties.
The second half started with Paget again on top and should have further extended their lead. However an unexplainable lapse in concentration aided by a very erratic refereeing performance allowed Spinney to get back into the game and draw level with approx 15 – 20 minutes to go. With the game appearing to be slipping away Paget dug deep and the first substitution was made.
Enter Kurt White! Gradually the Spinney pressure was brought under control and Paget began to play again. Kurt White then out of the blue scored a truly wonderful goal. Picking up the ball on the left wing he used his skill and determination to get into the box and from a tight angle coolly slotted the ball across the keeper into the bottom left hand corner.
This goal gave the Paget team the extra confidence to again take control of the game. Kurt White added his second a short time after to seal the well-deserved victory.
A big thank you for the hospitality of Spinney who looked after us with after match food and beverages.
Simon has signed off with Sundays Match report. Paget Sports would like to extend a big Thank you to Simon, Lisa & Elliot, for Their excellent support and commitment, and we look forward to working with Simon in his new role as a part- time coach. Paget produced the best performance of their season to so far once again comfortably beating a much improved Wonder Vaults side 4 - 0. After our recent good form with only losing 1 game out of 5 and scoring plenty of goals in the process It was decided that the Paget side was to remain unchanged.
It was an all round outstanding performance with Paget totally dominating the game from the first whistle.Wonder Vaults defended well and were very difficult to break down however as the game went on their was only going to be one winner. Goals from Kurt White x 2 , Mike Sanders and Jay Simms (sorry Dan) eventually sealed the result. Congratulations to Jamie Creevy for bagging the players man of the match award with another accomplished performance.
On a sour note it is with sadness that i have officially announced that i will be stepping down with immediate effect as the Paget Sports assistant manager. I have had a wonderful time and have been fortunate to meet some very talented football players who i hope have enjoyed having me around and working with me. I hope that i have had a positive impact on each and every one of your games and wish you all well for the future. For those players and parents i have upset during my tenure then i can only apologise. I can assure you nothing said or done was personal and was done in the best interest of Paget Sports Football Club.
I feel that my record at Paget was a good one and i can step down with my head held high and proud of not only what we have achieved but more importantly what we are about to achieve. I am convinced the club will have a big big season and come away with some silverware in one form or another.
Lastly please get behind Bucko and who ever he chooses to replace me and give them all your support as you gave me.
Its been a pleasure but it is now time for me to put my feet up for a while!!

Paget Sports travelled to Small Heath Alliance FC for this inaugural fixture between the teams.
An early kick off allowed the SHA FC players and staff the opportunity to attend a christening.
The fixture was everything we expected. A battle! Both teams were a credit to themselves with the tie going one way then the other. For the neutral (and there were a few), another platter served, with free entertainment to enjoy!
Ten minutes into the game, a low strike from Paget's Peter Logan, had the keeper diving low to save. On contact the ball reared up and over the keeper. Striker Kurt White, followed the ball into the net, ensuring a 1-0 lead and a first goal for `Logie'.
It was a short lived lead as SHA replied within 5 minutes. A SHA move down the Paget right handside was not broken up or dealt with, and resulted in a fine strike beating the outstretched Scott Curtis.
On 25 minutes, Jamie Creevy received the ball on the Paget left and attacked the 18 yard line. In so doing, he was pole axed by the SHA left back. The resultant penalty was converted by Kurt White. On the balance of play, I felt 2-1 was a fair reflection of the opening 30 minutes. SHA were clearly not going to lie down. Indeed, they struck back within 5 minutes. Half hearted challenges, allowed our opponents to expose areas in front of goal which subsequently led to an equaliser.
2-2 at half time was a fair reflection of business, but both sides will feel that indifferent refereeing may have cost each team that edge. Paget Sports substituted the yellow carded Kurt White with Dan O'Callaghan.
The second half was an entirely different affair. It would have been a lot to ask for a repeat of the pace and excitement, generated during the first period.
So, the game settled down, with both teams looking to sneak the advantage. For the first time in the game SHA took the lead. The entire Paget Sports midfield failed to deal with an advancing opponent in the middle of the pitch. Once goal side of the Paget midfield, a forward ball into the penalty box saw a low strike beat keeper Curtis at his post (3-2).
Not to be outdone, Paget levelled within 5 minutes. A Scott Handley free kick was converted by the head of skipper Derek Carr. 3-3 game on!
A further piece of poor Paget defending led to the 4th SHA goal. The 4 defenders and 4 midfield players all got sucked into the middle of the park in front of the 18 yard box. There appeared to be two perfect ranks of 4, one in front of the other. SHA played the ball wide and around the back of the two banks of 4. The SHA shot that followed was initially saved but the bounce was just right for tapping home! (4-3).
`Never say die', within 5 minutes a Paget corner was headed home by Dan Munday (4-4). With 7 minutes remaining, both teams were understandably wary, however, a good showpiece ended in spoils shared.
I do not wish to detract from the efforts of the players and staff involved, far from it, as both were exemplary, however, I cannot leave this report without stating that the match official was shocking. The official concerned failed to communicate with the players and indeed his linesman. Numerous goals were scored, that were deemed `Offside'. Had he chosen to read into those scenarios (and in my opinion he should have), the score line may have been far greater.

I don't recall the last time a Paget side found themselves 2 up in the opening 10 minutes. Those early goals from Kurt White and Lee Harrison shocked the Vaults. The opening 45 minutes were very much from the training field. The passing was quick, slick, and controlled. The supporting movement was much improved and left Vaults chasing the ball for much of the half. Further goals from White and Harrison were very much deserved and with the half time score at 4-0, it was always going to be a tall order, for Vaults to reverse the deficit.
The second half began with one Paget change, debutant Declan Timmins, replacing the injured Jay Simms, on the left of midfield.
Paget remained in control, but at 4-0, the foot was taken off the accelerator. Numerous chances came and went.
Credit to Wonder Vaults Fc, they never lay down. They battled their way back, creating a number of chances, which were admirably dealt with by stand in Keeper, Jamie Creevy.
Further substitutions saw Dan sullivan replacing Peter Logan and Dan O'callaghan replacing Andy Todd.
Sponsors and Players player of the match, central midfielder, Mike Sanders, rounded off a great personal performance, with a 30 yard half volley that sailed low into the net. At 5-0 it was job done!
Certainly a game of two differing halves. Credit to the Vaults for displaying such a good attitude on and off the pitch. The Vaults will not be an easy team to get results from. We wish them well.
Match official, Mark Perry, had little to do, but when required performed well. I guess he won't have future games as easy to officiate as this!
For Paget, it ensures another game of football!

Match comments from Simon Mellor
Well done to all involved in our first victory of the season. Our opposition Active Search proved once again stubborn and difficult to beat and showed that despite their poor start to the season will give more than a few teams a good run for their money.
In patches Paget Sports looked very comfortable and played some decent football but once again missed chances made the game alot closer than it should have been.
Active Search took the lead very early on with a scrambled header from a corner kick. After that Paget Sports settled down and created multiple clear cut chances which were all squandered. As half time approached Lee Harrison got up the highest to head home our fully deserved equaliser from a good deep cross.
The second half was a scrappy affair with Active coming back into the game and making it difficult for Paget Sports to play. It took another well taken header from Lee Harrison at the death to send Paget Sports into the next round and prevent the match going into dreaded extra time.
Overall i was very pleased with the commitment and attitude of the players who showed Active that they would not roll over like other previous encounters. Although we showed some good quality at times i feel that there is still plenty of room to improve certain aspects of our game but all in all you can be pleased with your efforts and especially with the result.
Lastly i would like to thank the players who didnt manage to get any minutes on the pitch today. I know its a bit of an old saying but a team is only as good as its squad and not the 11 that start the match. It is up to you to stick in there and work hard on improving your game and showing us you are worth a look. As discussed today no one has the divine right to start and every player is under pressure to play well and keep their place and this is how it will remain.

Warren Athletic |
Folowing a good pre season, a 2-0 home loss against an experienced Warren Athletic side, was not the league start that we would have liked. Warren Athleic had been relegated the previous season so we rightly expected a tough game.
On the 20mins mark a cross to the far post found the unmarked & pacey arrival of the visiting right winger, Ross (chucky), who calmly slotted home. On 35mins, Paget forward, James Creevy, slammed a sitter over the bar. An evenly contested first period came to an end.
At half time Paget introduced the experience of Peter Logan who initially settled in at right back. The opening 10mins of the second period, were shakey for Paget, however, a semblance of control was eventually regained when `Loggie' ventured into a midfield role, with Dan Munday entering the fray as a 3rd centre back. A change in shape to 3-5-2 took place. A Paget penalty claim, hand to ball, was denied by match referee Craig Beechey. His explanation was ball to hand. The majority of the spectator base disagreed. That decision was a significant turning point against Paget as it came during a sustained period of attacking play.
The second and decisive Warren Athletic goal (85mins), can be attributed to Nathan Gough who ran onto a defence splitting pass and clincally shot low past keeper, Scott Curtis. I am assured this was a goal scored from an offside position, which would explain why 3 Paget central defenders took a step up and then stood staring at each other. Whatever the case, it sealed the result in favour of Warren Athletic Fc.
The Paget Sports team gave 100% and should take heart from the performance.

Once again manager John Buchan used every member of his squad to ensure every player had a part to play in the game. No player seemed to pick up any injuries and Bucko should have a full squad to choose from for Sunday's Festival Division one opener at home to Warren Athletic.

Last nights friendly fixture with Oscott Liberals saw Paget Sports run out 4-0 winners. Definately a tale of two halves. The opening period witnessed an immediate injury to striker Lee Harrison who was replaced by Kurt White. Kurt was the only substitute at that time. A competitive and even opening 45mins, produced a late opening goal on 40 mins from Jamie Creevy.
Club captain Derek Carr appeared for the start of the 2nd half and assisted to open up a stubborn Oscott side. Goals by Carr, Simms and an unfortunate own goal, saw Paget run out 4-0 winners. The game was competitive and disciplined. Our thanks to the players and officials of Oscott Liberals. Enjoy your season.
Match referee, Gary Bennion, ensured he had little to do, by taking early control. Our thanks are extended to Mr Bennion.
The final signature of the season was completed with that of Midfielder/Central defender, Michael Sanders. Injury concerns for the coming fixture at Green Lane Fc include Peter Logan (definately missing with a sensitive bruise), Lee Harrison (knee), and Jay Simms (calf).
Following a good pre-season I look forward to the start of League business at Dales Lane, home of Rushall Olympic FC

Match snap :- Sunday 26th August, Halfway FC vs Paget Sports FC. 17 Paget Sports players were involved. The absence of Peter Logan in midfield was due to a sensitive injury received whilst playing for Continental star!
In perfect pitch and weather conditions, a fast moving, attack minded passing game materialised. Both teams battled to win the midfield. Honours even in that department. Paget did give the Halfway full backs a torrid time on both flanks. Extremely encouraging.
Good defensive work kept most of the Halfway opportunities at a distance. On the other hand, Paget will need to react sharper to the tap home opportunities. Both teams excercised good attitude/discipline and were a credit to there respective clubs.
A special thanks to the match referee (who's name escapes me) who played a positive part in this flowing fixture. If anyone can assist me with his identity I would be duly obliged. Credit where credit is due!
A fair sized audience was present and were entertained for free! Great stuff!
Our thanks are extended to the players and officials of Halfway FC, and to those officials of Boldmere St Michaels FC, who made us feel welcome. Best wishes for the forthcoming campaign,

Yesterday we travelled to Brickbridge Lane, Wombourne, where we played our hosts of old, Orton Vale FC (Wolverhampton League).
An extremely competitive game was played in wet conditions. Kurt White (aka David James) played in goal for the first half as Scott Curtis had to attend his daughters christening (I believe they had a great day!). Creevy remains in the USA (coaching) and Jim Church (Babysitting duties). So.........
On 20mins, guest player, Paul Carter, scored with a shot from some 20 yards out. The ball sailed into the top corner of the net. Paget played some wonderful one touch, touch and go, passing style football. The first half was a pleasure to watch. Paget went in 1-0 up at half time.
The second half, saw Daniel Sullivan replace kurt White in goal.
10 mins into the half, a low 10 yard shot from Kurt white , struck the net, taking the score to 2-0. A third swiftly followed, when a corner was headed home by Jimmy O'callaghan.
Orton Vale FC fought back scoring twice. The first, was a well worked move around the 18 yard box resulting in a low placement past `Sully' (aka the not so Kat). The second, a penalty, was a result of a crude/hard tackle by seasoned defender, Andy Todd.
The Vale made life extremely difficult and were unfortunate on a number of occasions not to get an equaliser. Sometimes, one tries to hard! In comparison, the Vale did have 4 pairs of fresh legs that entered the fray during the second half. Paget had a single pair!
Final score, 3-2 in Pagets favour. A great work out for all concerned.
May I thank Nigel, Spice and all the players & officials at Orton Vale Fc, for once again being top hosts. May I thank the staff & management at the New Inn pub, Wombourne, for excellent after match food and facilities.
Best wishes for the forthcoming season,

Paget Sports good pre season form continued with a resounding victory over premier one side Spinney FC. Nigel Ridley headed Paget in front just before half time which gave Paget Sports the edge in quite an even first half.
The second half was a different story with Paget Sports completely dominating the game. Further goals from new signing Jonathon Ashfall and Kurt White's third goal in pre season games and Nigel Ridley's second goal of the game gave Paget Sports a well deserved and comfortable victory.
Comments from Bucko.
I wish to extend my thanks to all those involved in Sundays fixture with West Bromwich based Spinney FC. Wonderful weather conditions assisted in supporting a highly entertaining game. These occasions are played without cost to the public and should be promoted in a better light. Some games can be dour affairs, in particular, when the weather and pitch conditions are poor. But, yet again, Paget have been graced by good opponents with a good attitude to the game.
Local ref, Mr John Caines, kept a low profile, which assisted in a fast flowing, attack minded game. Opportunities abound! There were no ugly challenges to report.
I would like to thank Dave and the staff at the Tyburn House pub for supplying the after match sandwiches, chips and refeshments.

Paget Sports created many chances but can be happy with the win in sweltering conditions at the Civil Service Ground. Hopefully Paget Sports will have more players back from holiday when we meet Erdington Cosmos next weekend.
Comments from Simon Mellor
First of all a big big thankyou to all the players that played for Paget Sports in our 4 - 1 win over Land Rover. Out of 17 outfield players to choose from it saddens me that only 6 of those 17 have actually kicked a ball in anger for Paget before.
Besides that dissapointment their were very promising debuts from Jono, Kisa, Logie and Richard Benton who all contributed very well in a deserved victory. All the regular Paget Sports players also played very well and looked in top condition which looks good for the coming season.
Paget dominated the game from the off and played some lovely stuff at times and went into the break 2 goals to the good. The second half was again dominated by a less than familiar Paget side after a number of changes leaving the end result 4 - 1. (Jono also had 2 goals Disallowed)

Comments from Paget Sports Manager John Buchan Paget Sports were beaten 3-0 by Belton Rangers. Clinical finishing was the material difference. Paget Sports created numerous scoring chances and failed to capitalise on any. Had this been a game of Rugby, then Paget would have won hands down! I wish to commend the Belton goalkeeper. We now have 1 last fixture left against Belton which will be far from easy to ensure we secure 4th position in the league. If we achieve this we can look back with some satisfaction on a very strange and difficult season. One last thing can all players make sure if available to turn out to training on Wednesday night. If for anything else you will be able to learn and play on the same pitch as the legend himself! Paget Sports Team - Scott Curtis, Scott Handley (Dan Sullivan), Andy Todd, Jim O'Callaghan, Tom O'Callaghan (Kurt White), James Mace, Derek Carr, Lee Cobb, Jay Simms (Joe Titley), Jamie Creevy, Dan O'Callaghan.

Comments from Simon Mellor Unfortunately yet another set of match notes written after another defeat. This week came a dissapointing defeat to potential league champions Selecta. It was a tight first half with Paget possibly creating the better chances. Selecta unfairly went in at half time 1-0 up after capitalising on an poor individual error.
|
![]() |
The second half was a different story with Paget Sports completely dominating in every area apart from putting the ball in the net. Unfortunately another comedy of errors led to Selecta's second goal which proved enough to put the game out of our reach. Paget Sports managed to pull a goal back with 15 mins to play but with having a player sent off almost straight away it made the task near on impossible. Congratulations to Selecta who have a tough game ahead against Bramton to secure the championship. Taking nothing away from Selecta's performance all season they will have to perform alot better than they did today if theres not to be an upset in their final game. |

As for Paget Sports we must keep going and keep believing there are two important games to go for us which we will need to win if we want a happier summer break. Yes we are in a bit of a slump of late but the management team are all confident that with one positive result we can restore all the confidence that is clearly missing at present. Kingstanding United kept their title hopes alive with this 2-0 victory at the Vale Stadium. In a much more even contest than last weeks cup tie. Paget Sports were beaten by two second half strikes from Tullock and Bolton, Paget Sports best chance in the first half fell to Kurt White when the Kingstanding keeper made a good save in the one on one situation. The first half was held up for some 35 minutes when Kingstanding's Powell needed hospital treatment after dislocating his shoulder, when he fell awkwardly in a challenge with Paget Sports Andy Todd.

In the second half Paget Sports best Effort was a Jamie Creevy shot which cannoned off the post. Kingstanding took the lead midway through the second half when a quick break found Tullock who slid the ball past the stranded Paget keeper Curtis. Ten minutes later Bolton wrapped the game up for Kingstanding with a quick counter attack. Paget Sports tried to salvage something from the game but in wasn't to be and we would like to wish Kingstanding all the best for the rest of the season. Comments from Simon Mellor |

A much better performance this week made this game alot closer and a better fought contest than last week. Unfortunately after a gritty first half performance we let the game go with a disappointing second half display. However not all is doom and gloom as up to the first goal being scored we were right in with a shout having missed the best chance of the game just before half time and having a certain penalty possibly 2 not given which could have changed the game completely. We have now got to concentrate on our remaining 3 fixtures and aim to win all 3. I am confident that we can snap out of our recent dip in form and make it a good end of season run in which will set us up nicely for next season. Our chances of winning the title for this season have now gone as we are seven points behind Selecta with only 3 games to play

Paget Sports |
Paget Sports bowed out of the Festival Cup with a very under par display at Aston University. Take nothing away from Kingstanding United, as they fully deserved their victory as Paget Sports were second best in all departments. Paget Sports found it hard to come to terms with the terrible weather conditions and heavy pitch. Goals from Tullock, Dixon, Martins and Powell had settled the tie before Kurt White grabbed a last minute consolation goal for Paget Sports from the penalty spot. His third goal in as many games. Paget Sports Football Club would like to wish Kingstanding United all the very best of luck in the final that's to follow. Paget Sports Team - Scott Curtis, Andy Todd, Scott Handley, (Dan O'Callaghan), Jim O'Callaghan, Tom O'Callaghan, (Andy Millan), Gavin Simms, Derek Carr, Matt Sullivan, (Kurt White), Jay Simms, Jamie Creevy, James Mace, Subs Not Used - Dan Sullivan, Joe Titley, Simon Mellor - Comments Firstly congratulations to a very good Kingstanding team in winning a very one sided semi final. Im sure I say on behalf of all involved with Paget Sports in saying good luck for the final. As for Paget , I thought our performance today was disappointing to say the least. I will not use this message board to blame any one player or players but collectively we were very poor and need to be alot better if we are to have a say in where the league title goes. I have no doubt that you all gave 100% today and your commitment is not in question. With commitment must come quality and today unfortunately that part of our game was sadly missing. Without the two it can make you look like a very ordinary football team and I believe that is what happened today. The good thing is that we play Kingstanding again next week where we can hopefully put things right. Can i remind all that when Brampton whacked us 4 - 0 we came back in the follwing match and beat them 1 - 0. It is possible! Dust yourselves down and ill see you next week.

Paget Sports came away with a hard fought point against league leaders Green Lane at Dales Lane this morning. in a very even first half there was not much to separate the two sides and chances were few and far between. The game started on a very hard surface and both sides battled to get their passing game going. It was clear as the half progressed that both defences were on top, as both sides chances were only half chances and were mainly from distance. Paget Sports best effort in the first half was a scramble from a corner and Kurt White shot over the bar from 12 yards. At half time there was nothing to choose between the sides and it finished level at 0-0. |

The second half started at a frantic pace with both sides trying to gain the advantage. Yet again both defences seemed to be in control and it looked like it was going to take something special to break the deadlock. That something special happened on the hour mark when Paget Sports took the lead. Kurt White picked the ball up just inside the Green Lane half, ran at the defence as it looked as he was going out wide he suddenly cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net, which left the Green Lane keeper with no chance. |

Paget Sports had taken a vital lead and at to be at their best to keep Green Lane at bay as they went in search of the equaliser. Just when Paget thought they had rid the Green Lane storm, Green Lane came up with a stunning equaliser themselves. Adam Edmunds thunderous shot flew past Paget Sports keeper Scott Curtis from 25 yards to bring Green Lane Level. Both sides had chances to win the game from then on and Paget were at little unlucky when Kurt White put the ball in the net again only for it to be ruled offside. In the end both sides were happy to settle for a point as a draw seemed a fair result Quote from Simon Mellor after today's game. |

Paget Sports moved back into the promotion race in division 1 with a late show at Kingstanding this morning. The first half of the game was tight though Kingstanding were the better side. It seemed to show that both sides we still feeling the effect of the long lay off, as the game took time to warm up. Paget Sports rid their luck on a couple of occasions and seemed to be heading for 0-0 until right on the stroke of half time Kingstanding took the lead. A long ball forward caught out the Paget defence and mix up between keeper Scott Curtis and defender Andy Todd, let Kingstanding's Chris Donnelly nip in and give Kingstanding the half time lead, which they probably deserved on the balance of play |

The second half started with Kingstanding putting Paget under real pressure hopping to extend their lead. and they missed a couple of half chances. Paget Sports then had a rear but great chance to draw level the ball was swung in from the right and found it's way to Jamie Creevy who acrobatically volleyed over from 10 yards. Then another Paget chance came soon after with the Kingstanding keeper pulling off a great save down to his right from a shot from Dan O'Callaghan. Paget's defence had to be at their best as Kingstanding kept pressing for the second killer goal. Kingstanding made three quick substitutions and this seemed to spur Paget Sports on they started to get more possession and with ten minutes left Paget Sports got the equalizer Dan O'Callaghan won the ball in the box after a bit of a scramble before smashing his shot low into the corner of the net. past the diving Kingstanding keeper. |

Then two minutes later Paget Sports were in front a great ball from Derek Carr found Dan O'Callaghan who delightfully finished high into the net past a shell shocked Kingstanding keeper. Paget Sports third goal came in the last minute when another through ball from Derek Carr this time found the hard working substitute Joe Titley who smashed an unstoppable shot past the keeper. Leamington Hibernian |
Paget Sports bowed out of the County Vase. They were beaten by an excellent Leamington Hibernian side, two first half goals from Ryan Langmead and John Paul Turpin settled the tie. Paget had their moments in this enthralling cup tie. Paget's young side started very nervy against a very experienced Leamington side and found themselves 2-0 down early on. But as the first half developed Paget started to grow in confidence. They created a couple of half chances but the best chance for Paget in the first half fell to Jamie Creevy who couldn't seem to get the ball out of his feet quick enough and the Leamington keeper was quick to spot the danger and was off his line to deny Creevy a shot at goal. |
The second half saw Paget have some long spells of possession and have a go at getting back into the game and substitute Kurt White had three half chances to put Paget back into the game. The first chance White drilled a shot inches wide from 20 yards, the second chance was even closer when he slipped the ball past the Leamington keeper and just the wrong side of the post. White's third chance of the game was a glancing header which went just wide. Final note to the game, Leamington Hibernian are a credit to Sunday Football for the sporting way they approach the game of football. Everybody at Paget Sports Football Club would like to wish Leamington Hibernian the best of luck in the County Vase and for the rest of the season. |
Quotes from Pagets Sports Manager John Buchan A youthful Paget team featured in the County Vase for the first time. Our guests for this tie were Leamington Hibernian Fc. A significant audience at the Vale stadium bore witness to a spirited Paget display. Leamington were the stronger in the early exchanges, taking an early lead on 10 minutes. A second goal swiftly followed. A change in shape, brought some stability to the Paget proceedings. The fixture was fast moving, both teams, intent in flowing forward in an attack minded manner. Some of the passing was to behold. The first half belonged to Leamington . |
The second half, lent, in favour of paget. For a considerable period, Paget lay siege around the opponents 18 yard line. Promising crosses and enthusiastic strikes at goal, failed to register. Paget were not blessed with the `Rub of the green' or a visit from 'Lady luck'. Leamington consolidated, counter attacking on every occasion a Paget attack was repelled. The referee, Mr David Eagle, gave a distinguished and exemplary performance. The conduct of both teams left Mr Eagle little to do. However, We thank Mr Eagle for his influence today. Well played Sir. In addition, I thank the players, staff, and supporters of both teams for making the fixture a rousing occasion. Leamington Hibs are the most distinguished team we have played. Best wishes to Leamington for the Quarter Final. Both teams were a credit to their respective Football leagues and to the BCFA. |

Paget Sports came out winner's thanks to a Jamie Creevy hat-tick and a bizarre Dan Sullivan goal. the game was played in appalling conditions with wind and rain all throughout the game and a very heavy pitch. Paget Sports again showed their discipline with what can only be described as game when your opposition are not really interested in playing a game of football and just interested in the nastier side of football Paget Sports cruised into a 4 - 0 lead then the uglier side of the game took over. Hazelwell claimed two late goals to make the game look closer than it really was. Paget Sports were forced to make a substitution and that player also had to leave the ground for his own safety, another substitute was forced to leave the ground also before the final whistle for his own safety and another Paget Sports player who was not used in the game was assaulted at the side of the pitch. |
Some of the comments I have received after Sunday's game are,"If this is what Sunday football is turning into I would rather stay in bed". and other comments of that nature in the same vain. Paget Sports finally beat Bramton at the fifth time of asking. In a really tight game where defences were on top throughout the game, chances were at a premium. Bramton had a couple of good early chances but both times they missed the target. Bramton nearly took the lead midway through the first half when a goal mouth scramble with the ball ending up hitting the Paget post. Paget Sports best efforts were all from distance in the first half. It seemed inevitable the would be level 0-0 at half time. |
![]() |
Paget Sports still smarting from a 4-0 home defeat to Bramton in a cup tie two weeks ago raised the pace of the game in the second half, and started to take the game to Bramton. But it took until the hour mark for Paget to take the lead. Paget won a free kick just inside the Bramton half, the ball found it's way to Adam Butler who crossed the ball in for Jim O'Callaghan to rise at the far post to head Paget in front. Paget held their own from then on and missed some really good chances late on to kill the game off, as Bramton went in search for an equalizer. But Paget Sports held on fo a valuable three points. To start moving back up the League Table and chasing a promotion place. |

Paget Sports crashed out of the George Williams Memorial Cup when Bramton hit them with a three goal burst in the 1st half. Goals from, Hamilton, Tester and Walsh, settled the tie by half time, the pick of the goals being a Walsh volley from 20 yards right on the stroke of half time. Paget tried to battle back in the second half and created a few half chances. The game was finally killed off when Bramton's Anthony Davis scored the goal of the game with an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. |
Manager John Buchan said after the game: Defeat against Bramton sounds worse than the reality of the play. Firstly, lets congratulate Bramton for their ability to finish from distance. They took those four opportunities handsomely. Placed in prosopective, it was a good game, hosted by the youngest of Paget teams. Had lady luck filtered our way, then Paget would have been accredited a goal or two. The scoreline does not do Paget's part justice. On the day, we gifted a strong Bramton team those opportunities. Their lethal finishing said the rest. Commitment, Passion and Patience are required. For the second week running Paget faced one of their closest rivals, in a game so evenly matched chances were at a premium, Derek Carr and Jay Simms had chances for Paget in the first half, but Belton always looked dangerous on the break and it was no suprise that the scores were level at 0 - 0 at half time. Paget had to reshuffle their side when centre half Kevin Killingworth had to go off with a shoulder injury which looked quite serious after a collision with Paget keeper Scott Curtis. |

The second half seemed more highly charged with both teams trying to force the play. Jay Simms twice bringing the best out of the Belton keeper, Derek Carr shot wide from close range but to be fair to Derek he was quickly closed down by the defender. The game looked to be heading for a 0 - 0 draw until 4 minutes from time when a Belton quick break caught Paget on the back foot a cross from the right seemed to baffle the Paget defence, as they could only stand and watch as Belton's John Shoesmith smashed the ball home from close range. Paget Sports suffered their first defeat of the season in this highly charged encounter, for the first 20 minutes the game was played at 100 miles an hour with no team taking total command. Then a long kick from Paget keeper Scott Curtis deceived everyone except striker Kurt White who nipped in between the Bramton defence and keeper to give Paget the lead. Paget's lead however was short lived when Anthony Davis's sweet strike pulled Bramton level. Bramton had their keeper to thank to keep the scores level with three fine saves in as many minutes, with a noted save tipping over a Jim O'Callaghan effort. |
The second half started very much the way of the first but Bramton seemed to be using the slope of the pitch to their advantage.Yet another long ball caught out the defence but this time it was Paget as Tester put Bramton in front. Paget then rallied and a throw from Sulliavan a flick on by Munday left O'Callaghan a chance to put Paget level which took, by vollying past the stranded keeper. Paget had to suffer heartbreak in the closing minutes when Bramton's Tester scored his second goal to give Bramton the points. Dan Munday and Tom O'Callaghan both missed chances from set plays, but the best chance of all fell to substitute Joey Titley who narrowly shot wide with only the keeper to beat.
